Atlantech Systems Solar Power Installation Projects

Example of BP Gas Station Solar Power Canopy Systems

Atlantech Systems furnished Super Sky Products, Inc. in a turnkey union installation of six of the above pictured units in the NYC metro area.

Stations consisted of a 35'6" wide x min. 83' long self supporting barrel vaulted aluminum glazing structure, glazed with a laminated glass which incorporated a laser etched monocrystaline PV. The laser etching resulted in 5% visible light transmittance below the canopy, which allowed the canopy to serve four functions.

1. Provide protection from the elements.

2. Diffused light passed thru the PV panels allowing the canopy to act as a skylight.

3. Produce electricity which was used by the station and also put back onto the grid.

4. As in the example above, when back-lit at night, it produced a pleasant glowing aesthetic effect.

The power output of the units ranged from 11.2 Kw to 20.2 Kw.

The River House Active Solar Power System Installation - Battery Park City, NY

The system consisted of four elevations around the mechanical penthouse on a 30 + story residential building in downtown NYC.

Photovoltaic panels consisted of multicrystalline cells in a laminated glass within an aluminum frame.

North elevation consisted of fixed, horizontally mounted, perforated metal panels. The panels were purely aesthetic and had no other function.

East & West elevations consisted of vertically oriented operable laminated glass PV panels mounted into an aluminum framing system which was anchored to the building structure.

The active panels were operated by a propane charged piston system controlled by light sensitive "Gerasol" tubes mounted to the system.

When heated, the propane gas expands and pivots the PV panels to maximize their exposure to the sun.

South elevation functioned exactly the same way as the East & West elevations, except the panels were mounted horizontally to maximize their orientation to the sun.

Atlantech Systems was responsible for furnishing a turnkey union installation package to the building owner within a compressed period due to delays in other phases of construction. The challenges of this project were considerable because the installers worked off the edge of the building with a sheer 30 + story wall below. This required great dexterity on the part of our installers and great care due to the delicate nature of the system. The project was fully installed on schedule.
